Mindful Living for Students (ages 8-12): A Still Quiet Place

A 9-week Mindfulness Curriculum developed by Dr. Amy Saltzman to help youth cultivate resilience, a growth mindset, and strong social and emotional skills.

Children learn to slow down and focus their attention within to discover the “Still Quiet Place“ within themselves. This helps them make more responsible, compassionate, and healthy choices.

Mindfulness is paying attention to your life, here and now, with kindness and curiosity. ... This ability to pay attention is a natural, innate human capacity. - Dr. Amy Saltzman

After 9 sessions of this course, 4th-7th graders have experienced benefits such as:

  • Increased focus: greater ability to direct their attention to what serves them

  • Greater emotional intelligence: less reactivity and more ability to respond mindfully

  • Improved prosocial skills: more compassion towards self and others

These gains translate into meaningful changes in kids’ behavior at home and at school. Research supports the importance of teaching these beneficial life skills early - before children enter their teenage years or experience the stress of adulthood.

When: Sunday’s 2:00 -3:30 pm MST Starting January 24th, 31st, February 7th, 14th, 21st, 28th, March 7th, 14th, and 21st

Jen is an MBA with 15-plus years of experience working with some of Canada’s largest sports, corporate, and charitable organizations. About 9 years ago, to help manage stress, Jen began meditating, but she got much more committed to practicing and studying in 2016, once she joined a mindfulness and meditation teacher training group in Toronto, Ontario. Last year, while Jen was completing the Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) Teacher Training Intensive Course for adults, she recognized that she was most motivated to teach these same techniques to children and teenagers because she wished someone would have taught her this stuff when she was a kid. So last summer, Jen spent 10 weeks studying with Dr. Amy Saltzman to learn her Still Quiet Place program, an adapted MBSR curriculum for children, teens, and athletes.

She is very much looking forward to co-teaching the Still Quiet Place program with Urvi!

Urvi is a Financial Analyst with 15-plus years of experience working with some of America’s largest Telecom, Pharmaceutical, and Charitable organizations. About 20 years ago, to help manage stress, Urvi began meditating, but she got much more committed to practicing and studying in 2015, once she joined a mindfulness and meditation teacher training group in Southern California. Last year, while Urvi was completing the Mindfulness-Based Teacher Training for parents, she recognized that she was most motivated to teach these same techniques to children and teenagers because she wished someone would have taught her these skills when she was a teen. So last summer, Urvi spent 10 weeks studying with Dr. Amy Saltzman to learn her Still Quiet Place program, an adapted MBSR curriculum for children, teens, and athletes.
